Environmental Management
Environmental protection management is of utmost significance to our business and the communities within our operational purview.
Environmental protection management holds the utmost significance for our business and the communities within our operational purview. Our operations span diverse locations, each presenting unique environmental, social, and health risks.
These multifaceted risks are effectively managed through the meticulous guidance of our Integrated Management System (IMS) Manual, which provides a structured framework for systematically identifying, assessing, managing, and continuously monitoring these factors.
Our primary strategy for mitigating the environmental impact of our operations focuses on implementing a prudent and proactive environmental management system. This approach emphasizes operational efficiency, sustainability, and the adoption of industry best practices and cutting-edge technologies within our sector.
Environmental Compliance:
WOQOD and its subsidiary entities are unwavering in their commitment to strict adherence to all pertinent regulations and guidelines governing their business operations. They uphold full compliance with environmental regulations instituted by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) also meet all relevant international regulations and standards.
WOQOD systematically implements comprehensive environmental policies and management systems. Through vigilant monitoring and the maintenance of key performance indicators, the organization continually integrates and promotes environmental sustainability across all its operations.
Environmental Remediation and Resource Conservation:
The process begins with a comprehensive understanding and adherence to local regulations established by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment. Internally, we employ specialized tools to proactively identify potential risks, which encompass the execution of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and an Environmental Hazard Identification (ENVID) process. The outcomes of these tools are systematically incorporated into the Risk Register specific to each facility. This integration serves as the foundation for guiding the formulation and execution of mitigation and monitoring strategies, with the overarching objective of proficiently managing environmental impacts and their corresponding risks.
Throughout the entire life cycle of our assets, we actively integrate stakeholder engagement into this endeavor to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach to environmental risk management.
Emission Management:
Qatar is taking decisive measures to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with the Oil and Gas sector committed to adopting technologies with lower emission intensities in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030. In pursuit of this goal, our efforts include the monitoring and disclosure of GHG emissions from our operations. We are also dedicated to developing strategies and implementing advanced technologies to mitigate emissions effectively.
Periodic environmental monitoring is conducted by our expert team to ensure that key parameters remain within the limits specified by regulatory authorities. We utilize the best available technologies to address and mitigate any potential environmental concerns.
WOQOD is currently in the process of installing Stage II vapor recovery systems at all new petrol stations to efficiently manage volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.
Water Management:
WOQOD acknowledges the significance of natural capital and the impact of its activities on the environment. While water is a critical resource for any oil and gas company, it is important to note that WOQOD, as a downstream distributor of petroleum products, does not engage in significant industrial water consumption as part of its daily operations.
In its commitment to responsible resource management, WOQOD has launched initiatives aimed at optimizing water usage within its petrol stations and other operational facilities. These efforts include exploring opportunities for water reuse and recycling wherever feasible.
Waste Management:
Waste generated from WOQOD's operational and business activities is classified into two major categories: non-hazardous and hazardous waste. It is imperative that we adhere to company standards and Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) regulations when managing, storing, and disposing of this waste.
Our primary focus lies in the realms of waste reuse and recycling. Our objective is to enhance recycling rates and minimize waste sent to landfill facilities, thereby reducing our environmental footprint and conserving valuable resources.
Spill Response:
WOQOD's approach is centered on spill prevention and the establishment of rapid response measures for contingencies. All transport and storage operations undergo rigorous risk assessments, evaluations of preventive and mitigation measures, and are subject to comprehensive maintenance and inspection programs
We have implemented advanced monitoring systems and employ observational processes to oversee our tanks and vehicles. Data collected from these systems, along with observational insights, is analyzed to identify potential system integrity gaps for effective risk management.
Additionally, our petrol stations are equipped with underground storage tanks featuring double skins and integrated leak detection systems. These systems automatically trigger alarm signals in the event of any leakage through the inner tank wall, effectively preventing soil contamination.
