Doha, May, 2009: In line with its strategies to implement environmental policies that create sustainable ecosystems, WOQOD has participated in the closing ceremony of the Qatar Green and Clean Campaign organized at the Qatar Green Center in the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning on May 31, 2009.
This annual campaign is organized in collaboration with a number of Ministries, embassies, public and private companies, and civil society organizations. It aims at raising awareness on the importance of the environment, foresting and cleanliness in sustainable development and in preserving Qatar's aesthetic appearance.
Also as part of its commitment to encourage the expansion of green areas and forestation, WOQOD distributed 10,000 Sidra trees during the closing ceremony.
Through its involvement in environmental activities and events, WOQOD seeks to inspire a change in the mindset and attitudes of current generations and to motivate them to work for a greener future. This year WOQOD's participation was embodied in a state-of-the-art exhibition stand that allowed visitors to engage in a three dimensional experience with the various natural elements. A waterfall, plants, trees, air, sounds of nature, etc. are combined in this unique stand to project the serene feeling a clean and green environment can provide us.
The Sidra tree is endemic to Qatar and grows in Qatar's desert climate. It has been the source of inspiration for many traditional poets and scholars, and many travelers have at one time gathered under its shade.
"The environment is a part of WOQOD's brand identity and we are committed to launching more programs that focus on preserving the ecological balance in Qatar," commented Mr. Mohammed Turki Al-Sobai, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of WOQOD.
