Doha, 09/02/2014 - On February 9, 2014, the iconic WOQOD tower was officially inaugurated by H.E Mr. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Chairman of Qatar Fuel (WOQOD).

The opening ceremony which was also attended by a number of Board’s members, senior government officials, Municipality, Civil Defense representatives and WOQOD’s management. Representatives from Oryx GTL management also participated in the ceremony.

H.E. Mr. Al-Attiyah, along with the dignitary officials and guests toured the various facilities and floors of the tower, beginning their tour with a visit to the ground floor reception and Sidra store, from where they proceeded to visit the Oryx GTL offices then moved to WOQOD’s head office, which occupies floors from fourteen to thirty and includes the Board Meeting Room, the Chairman’s Office, the Office of the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, in addition to the auditorium which accommodates more than 100 people.

The Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Woqod Mr. Mohamed Turki Al Sobai commented on the event and said “Today , we are happy to share with you the inauguration ceremony of our head quarter at the West Bay and after obtaining all the necessary documents and fulfilling all the safety and security requirements which took us a quiet long time. “

“The building exterior is cladded with glass panes, framed by energy-efficient LED lights running along the building to illuminate Doha’s skyline at night with glamorous and lively colors. At the top of the building sets the largest 3 faces LED screen in Qatar, which is used to pass on public awareness messages, social messages and greetings on Qatar’s special religious and celebratory occasions” Al Sobai added .

Located on a flat site of 3,500 square meters, and 172 meter rises, the building comprises of 34 floors, serviced by eight (8) high-speed elevators that swiftly serve over 42,500 square meters of built up area, a ground floor Sidra store and lounge and an ATM, a first floor mosque. The building is accommodated by 350 car parking spaces housed within four levels of underground basement floors.

WOQOD Tower is fitted with Telephone systems and Voice-Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) providing added speed and communications efficiency. It is also equipped with the latest smart buildings technologies, in order to effectively track and reduce energy consumption and bring down operating costs, more over the tower is connected with Qatar Cool district cooling system, which provides chilled water to cool the building at low costs and no environmental hazards.

Fire safety was a prime factor in the design of WOQOD tower. The whole building is monitored 24 hours through a central control room, and is equipped with automatic sprinklers system in each floor, in addition to the fire extinguishers and first aid supplies that are strategically located on all floors, and the dedicated fire wardens on each floor, which are trained to deal with accidents and emergencies.

WOQOD tower is protected by a state of the art security system that ensures a comfortable and safe environment for all employees and guests. The system works with the Building Management System (BMS) to allow security personnel at the tower to take quick action during a security breach or threat. More than 200 cameras monitor elevators, critical building entry and exit points in order to control building access, provide information on people locations to aid security, and minimize risk in case of emergency or if an unauthorized person accesses a secure area.
