Health and Safety

WOQOD is committed to ensuring its employees and contractors are safe and healthy. Our staff drive a lot of kilometers a year to deliver fuel and other products for your convenience. They operate our diverse operations, some around the clock, whether it's an LPG bottling plant, product storage and loading facility or bitumen blending plant among others. Occupational safety and employee wellness is a high priority to us. We utilize our Integrated Management System (IMS) to manage and mitigate all operational risks. Through this strict safety policy, employees are continuously trained and empowered to take responsibility for unsafe work conditions.

Personal Safety

Personal safety is addressed by a number of processes in the IMS. Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are safety focused and form a basic part of our safety approach. These SOPs include our Permit-to-Work system which ensures any potentially hazardous work, such as electrical work or entry into a confined space, is adequately evaluated, authorized, carried out and closed out in a safe and documented manner.  This is driven by operational personnel and supported by our HSE staff who develop job safety analysis for various tasks.

We have developed an incident investigation process to evaluate all incidents, even near misses, to prevent any potential consequences in the future. This tool is in line with international best practice to target high-potential incidents. The results of the findings are shared with all relevant stakeholders in our aim to raise awareness through a Safety Alert Mechanism.

In WOQOD's effort and dedication to safety, we require all our partners and contractors to join in safety training and tool box talks together with our employees. For example, since we started our Natural Gas network in Small and Medium Industries (SAMI) area, we have conducted safety awareness orientations and tool box talks for almost all clients.

Road Safety

Supplying the entire fuel needs of the State of Qatar is a tremendous task. For that, road safety is a top priority for the largest fleet in the country. It is also a big challenge because motor vehicle accidents still are a key risk in our business.

This Journey starts with leadership commitment in demonstrating compliance and encouraging performance improvement. Part of our corporate controls is to rely on metrics to improve our road record. These metrics include vehicle accident rate and its resulting consequences such as injury, spill or roll-over. The data is used for decision making and as an input towards our vehicle specifications which are more stringent than required by regulation.

Driver behavior is a key component of our road safety program. Drivers are hired only once they achieve a measurable set of competencies. They are trained against proper defensive driving techniques and specific tanker training to target rollover risks, load assessment, driver fatigue and driver fitness to work. We use Vehicle Tracking System in order to target driver behavior by recording their performance such as daily routes, speeding events, hard braking, sharp acceleration and seat belts compliance. This system is currently installed in all our vehicles as part of our road safety program.

Health

Our goal is to reduce occupational health risks and hazardous substance exposure. As a downstream and retail driven organization our employees and stakeholders are targeted with our internal processes to reduce occupational exposure to substances such as hydrocarbon vapors.

WOQOD provides support services to ensure our staff lead healthy lifestyles. These services include training and awareness campaigns for fatigue, stress and ergonomics.
