WOQOD Unveils New Bulk LPG System
Published on
6/19/2006

Qatar Fuel (WOQOD) yesterday launched its new bulk liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) system especially designed for extensive gas end users like: restaurants, villas and apartment blocks.

Working closely with Civil Defense and Urban Planning, WOQOD has defined specifications for Bulk LPG Tank systems to meet the recent international standards.

WOQOD has appointed five qualified contractors for the designing and installation of the system suitable for truck deliveries of LPG.

“We have tanks in stock now which we have bought from a reputable supplier in Saudi Arabia. The system typically would take about two weeks from the time the customer places the order to installation,” Mark Vidler, Retail and Marketing Manager at WOQOD said at the launch of the new tank system.

“The Bulk LPG Tank Systems will be filled up directly by WOQOD. We have LPG road tankers that would come to customer house, apartment blocks or restaurant,” he said.

Vidler said that the customer will have to buy the tank and setting up the pipes with the typical installation cost for a large villa to be approximately QR 3,500.

The existing gas cylinders would be phased, but only for large villas and restaurants, he said, while the small 12 Kg cylinders will stay for people who have limited demand for gas and those living in remote locations.

“WOQOD has commissioned the building of a new plant in the New Industrial Area which will be operational by the end of 2007 and there we will be producing new 12 Kg cylinders and we will change over the existing very old cylinders in the market with brand new ones with new set of technology,” he said.

There is still a market for the 12 Kg cylinders, but for people who have large usage of gas like restaurants, the six or eight large 48 Kg cylinders that they use could be replaced with one gas tank and have gas conveniently delivered to them by WOQOD,” he said.

WOQOD is introducing four sizes of the new bulk LPG tank systems that include 450-liter tanks for villas, and 1,000,2,000 and 4,000-liter tanks for bigger users.

“Our emphasis at WOQOD is on providing all our customers a convenient, safe and reliable LPG system to suit each customer’s requirements,” said Vidler.

He explained that apartment buildings could have LPG supplied by pipelines directly to kitchens from one LPG tank serving the whole building with each apartment metered so that only the LPG used will be charged. This, he said, would not only free up the space that is being occupied in kitchens today by the ordinary cylinders, but it is also safer and more convenient.
