Doha, May 12, 2009: In an outstanding show of solidarity and in line with its commitment to corporate social responsibility, Qatar Fuel (WOQOD) pledged QR 1 million today to help the children living in the Gaza Strip. The donation was announced during a warm event organized at WOQOD premises yesterday.
This initiative undertaken by WOQOD in partnership with Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) is another token of WOQOD’s continuous dedication to help improve lives and communities in Qatar and the Middle East. This time WOQOD is lending a helping hand to the thousands of hapless, homeless and victimized children of Gaza rendered destitute by the recent conflict.
Furthermore, WOQOD has chosen ROTA as a partner on this project out of respect and appreciation to ROTA’s untiring effort in assisting the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip, focusing mainly on the children and youth.
WOQOD’s donation also included an additional gesture of kindness and philanthropy by WOQOD’s employees, who, in their turn, wanted to alleviate in any way they could the suffering of the Palestinians. Trying to express their solidarity, the WOQOD employees were able to raise the amount of QR 104,786.08 giving hope to the people in Gaza.
Mr. Mohamed Khalifa Turki Al-Sobai, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of WOQOD presented a cheque of QR 1 million to H.E. Sheikha Aisha Bint Faleh Al-Thani, Board Member of Reach Out To Asia. Another cheque of QR 104,786.08 from the WOOQD employees was also presented to H.E.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Al-Sobai said, “It is our humanitarian duty to be part of this noble relief program. The catastrophe that befell Gaza requires urgent assistance, and since its inception WOQOD has always worked on positively impacting communities, and providing help to oppressed peoples.”
“Our project in Gaza is very important as it aims to alleviate the trauma in the children’s hearts and offer them a better future. It is a great honor for me and for Reach Out To Asia to be here today to receive WOQOD’s generous donation and I would like to cordially thank the Management and the rest of the WOQOD employees for their support and philanthropy, we will allocate this donation to provide educational scholarships to Palestinian youth, rehabilitation of 2 schools and providing Mobile Libraries”, said H.E. Sheikha Aisha Bint Faleh Al-Thani.
