For the Third Year in a Row WOQOD Gives Away 10,000 Sidra Trees.
Doha, Qatar: Creating environmental awareness and sustainability is one of Qatar Fuel’s “WOQOD” main objectives. Hence, in line with its principles of promoting a greener future, WOQOD participated in Qatar Petroleum’s Environment Fair 2011 that took place between1-3 April 2011 at the Doha Exhibition Center.
Among its Environment Day activities, WOQOD distributed 10,000 Sidra trees for the third year in a row in the hope of contributing to making Qatar a greener and cleaner place. The Sidra tree is endemic to Qatar. It is a tough tree able to thrive in Qatar’s desert-environment with minimum maintenance.
The event, which attracted thousands of visitors, was one of the largest exhibitions staged in the region. Its aim is to promote environmental awareness especially among children and young adults as well as their families.
WOQOD's participation in the Fair is another clear commitment to its role of environmental leadership. WOQOD consciously looks to minimize its effect on the environment and will continue to invest in technologies to improve in this area.
WOQOD implements best practices and abides by relevant national and international regulations, especially those related to health, safety and environment.
Among WOQOD’s green initiatives is the launching of the tree planting campaign in two of its new stations: Al Sheehaniya Station and Al Daayen Station. In addition to the implementation of an Environmental Improvement Plan (EIP) based on efficient office printing procedures, usage of cost effective fonts, conservation of electricity, and others.
WOQOD also offers recycling points at its service stations to encourage customers to dispose their paper, plastic, glass and aluminum waste. Furthermore, WOQOD’s Vapor Recovery System helps transform vapor into liquid fuel, thus minimizing vapor emissions in the atmosphere and providing a safer and healthier work setting while minimizing the adverse impact on the environment.
On the other hand, WOQOD has fitted all its new service stations with car washing machines that include a water-recycling system that enables them to reuse 90% of the water used in the car cleaning process.
Furthermore, staying true to its objective of playing a major role as an active stakeholder in the community and going in par with its corporate social responsibility policy, WOQOD is a co-sponsor of the Friends of the Environment initiative that aims at introducing the concept of recycling to all schools in Qatar.
WOQOD will continue to launch more programs and develop systems with a strong focus on preserving the ecological balance.
